BACKGROUND TO OUR MISSION

Sadly, in Africa, Asia and possibly other parts of the world, there is a myth that some not only believe but they act on it.  The myth is that when an HIV positive man has sex with a virgin they get cured of AIDS.

Take the story of Tendai, our first client, for instance, an incredibly intelligent and reserved young 13 year old girl in Secondary School at the time we encountered her.  Her father had died a couple years before we got to know about her and her uncle, as is expected by culture and tradition in Zimbabwe, had become the surrogate guardian of her and her mother.  Except, the uncle had ulterior motives.
